Indicative Itinerary

Skra Waterfalls and Blue Lagoon
This pearl of northern Greece is formed by dozens of streams of Mount Paikos that run together, ending at the waterfalls of Skra.
The lake is formed by streams of Mount Paikos, which run together and end at the waterfalls of Skra (they took their name from the village Skra, located in the north), with the characteristic stalactites and stalagmites and the crystal clear waters, then falling to the point this creating the lake, the depth of which reaches 4 meters. The blue lake owes its color thanks to the fossilized rocks that are at its bottom.

Guests can enjoy a variety of activities and walks in nature, relaxing on one of the benches and enjoying the stunning scenery, dense forest with tall trees, plane trees, oaks, pines and indefinitely fragrant trees that let the sun reach only in some parts of the lake, intensifying the cinematic effect of spectacle – it is like watching scenes from “The Lord of the Rings”, in the most serene.

We will leave the car in the open parking and follow the stone path and the approximately 300 wide steps that lead to a green glade next to the stream of Kotza-Dere, where there are wooden tables and seats to rest.

Next, we will cross the wooden bridge over the rushing waters of the forest. There we will choose one of the two paths that will bring us in front of a natural spectacle, the small and large waterfalls. Close your eyes for a while and indulge in the magic of sound from the foamy waters.

But the surprises do not stop here!
We continue on the dirt road and very soon we will find ourselves in front of Lake Skra. A landscape of eerie, paradisiacal beauty, in the dense forest, which may be inhabited by fairies, when darkness falls.
Its incomparable beauty awe-inspiring every visitor and makes necessary the refreshing and dip, which if you are bold you can do it from the knotted rope hanging from a tree.

2 Rivers (Dyo Potamia) (Optionally)

The meeting point of two tributaries of Axios river, and their union into one. The two rivers that join, the local inhabitants of the wider area, named them with names in the local dialect. The first river that comes from Karpi is called “Cherna Reka” i.e. “Black river – Mavropotamos” because of the black rocks that are there. The other river is called “Gulema Reka” which means “Great River”.
In the first river there is a platform where you can walk along the bank, while in the second, which you will meet a little further down (after the bridge – walking path) you will find a small waterfall and the specially designed area for swimming with the small dam.

The area has been landscaped by the Forestry Department of Goumenissa. The paths in Dyo Potamia are in excellent condition, shaped by the Forest Service and passable by our little friends. The recreational projects that have been designed are perfectly in harmony with the environment. They offer the visitor the opportunity to walk on wooden bridges made of tree trunks to get to know the local flora and fauna. The waters of the small waterfall end up in a stone-built natural pool, also the work of the Forestry Department of Goumenissa.

Holy Monastery of Saint Nicodemus, Goumenissa (Optionally)

On one of the most beautiful slopes of Mount Paiko, above the settlement of Pentalofo, at an altitude of 700 m, stands tall in the forest the holy community of Saint Nicodemus the Agiorite, a member of the Monastery of Simon Petras of Mount Athos, which was founded in 1981. Central church is double floor and its upper level is dedicated to Saint Nicodemus while the ground floor part to Saint Raphael, Irene and Nikolaos.

In the few years of its existence, it has become one of the most impressive monasteries in Macedonia, with a rich spiritual work. The monastery’s iconography is famous, famous for the careful and high-quality construction of hand-made icons. The church functions and ceremonies are performed according to the standard of Saints. The relic of Saint Nicodemus was stolen in 2010, however miraculously, after the immediate intervention of the Saint who kindly checked the shrine and achieved his repentance, it returned to its old position to the joy of the brotherhood and friends of the monastery.
It celebrates on July 14th.
