Thessaloniki to Kerkini Lake – Private Day Trip

Kerkini is one of the oldest migratory stations for birds in the area. This is the ideal destination for nature lovers – enjoy this full day excursion to get close to rare species of birds and animals!
This is a day trip to Lake Kerkini, one of the 10 most valuable wetland habitats in Greece with about 300 species of birds and rare animals. Among the many species, admire the beautiful flamingos and the magnificent buffalos that walk near you. All these are combined with the wonderful view of Mount Belles and the majestic valley of Serres.

USEFUL INFORMATION
Lake Kerkini offers one of the few opportunities for birdwatching in Greece.
• From November to March, you can see up to 80 bird species.
• From April to June, the number reaches up to 300.
• From mid-July until November, thousands of migratory birds arrive at the waters of Lake Kerkini and stay until spring.
They travel thousands of kilometers from the north to overwinter in the south, creating a unique spectacle during the autumn.
Among others, we can observe many Herons, Flamingos, Dalmatian Pelicans, Cormorants, Spoonbills, Glossy Ibises, Pygmy Cormorants, and Geese!
The lake is dressed in different colors every season of the year, creating a dreamlike scenery.

INDICATIVE ITINERARY

• 09:00: Depart from Thessaloniki to Kerkini Lake.
• 10:00: Reach the Dam of Kerkini Lake (Lithotopos area). Stop for coffee.
• 10:30: Visit a small private zoo to see deers, wild goats, ostriches, peacocks, etc
• 11:30: Enjoy bird watching through the lake. Private cruise with a boat. Every season of the year hosts different species of birds so the boat ride hides a different surprise each time.
• 12:30: Horse riding (Optionally). The area for horse riding is situated next to the dam and you can enjoy a horse ride as long as the weather permits it.
• 13:30: Visit a farm, just some kilometers away, where the impressive water buffalos will walk near to you.
• 14:30: Lunch Break. Enjoy your lunch in traditional Greek taverns in villages around the lake.
• 16:00: Depart to Thessaloniki
• 17:00: Arrival at Thessaloniki at the pick-up point.
