ABOUT VELIKA BEACH

The award winning blue flag beach Velika, is a continuation of the beaches of Agiokampos and Kato Sotiritsa. In some parts are sandy while other pebble. It is well organized, with many taverns, supermarkets, coffee bars and numerous rented rooms.

Every summer thousands of tourists flock to the beach Velika, to enjoy the wonderful, clear sea and fresh seafood in the taverns, and the nightlife at beach bar . Prominent on the beach Velika is the piece after the “Vrachakia”. There the landscape combined with the beach is unique and attracts large crowds every day.

In Velikas beach organized beach volley matches and participating athletes from all over Greece. The stream Platanias Velika every year the period 20/7 to 20/8, in cultural expressions within named “Filoktiteia” organized rich cultural events such as theatrical performances of known actors in Velika theater etc. Besides the theater, the city has organized the space inside the trees, with stone square, elementary cafeteria, Citizen Service Centre and behind this area, a football field 5×5.

In stream Platanias of Velika you can found samples of the Byzantine splendor of the castle, which revealed the archaeological excavations. On the same road you can visit the Monastery St. John the Theologian which is remarkable example of Byzantine style. Also hiking with organized recreation areas, hiking path Melivia-Velika, is a unique experience.
